I bought this to use with my laptop at home. But there are a number of problems with it — all of which are simple things that they should have fixed:
(1) Why include a keyboard and not a mouse? I had to buy this separately.
(2) Why only 3 USB parts?
(3) The station needs to be plugged in to work … so the keyboard will not work when plugged into the USB port of my laptop unless I have also plugged in the adaptor. Why? Other wireless keyboards don’t have this requirement.
(4) My external hard drive will not work when plugged into one of the 3 ports on this device – so I had to get a separate port replicator for this.
(5) The plug on the device is too short – it couldn’t make the short trip from the dining room table to the wall outlet – so I had to get an adaptor.
Basically, you’re paying for a hunk of plastic to prop up your laptop monitor, plus a wireless keyboard, plus a fairly poor port replicator.
If I had it to do over again, I would purchase the PCI docking station for home usage from Toshiba. I would lose the monitor stand, but I would be able to do more with this replicator.

Conceptually, the Alto Cordless is a nice product. In reality, I would bet that it is the worst product ever released by Logitech.
I currently own the Cordless Desktop Pro and recently bought one of the new Laser wireless desktop sets for my mom, as I am a Logitech fan.
However, the Alto cordless fails in a big way at two of its claims: cordless capability and the USB hub.
The cordless is simply horrible. Sometimes (2-3 times per page of text), while typing, the keyboard will stop responding and will instead clone the last letter multiple times, e.g. baddddddddddddddddddd
Regarding the USB, I connect a USB corded mouse and a Blackberry phone to the keyboard. When my laptop goes into a low-power mode (not sleep or standby, just a lower-power mode), it seems that the USB connection breaks and needs resetting. In order to reset, I have to shutdown my laptop and power-down the Alto.
If Logitech would give me a decent trade-in opportunity to get this out of my hands, I would take it in a heartbeat. Otherwise, I am stuck until I decide to spend bucks to find a replacement.

I bought this because I was using a large Microsoft keyboard with my laptop that constantly gave me trouble. It would work half the time and fail the rest. Plus, it was inconvenient. It was ergonomically well-made, however. I miss that with this unit. I feel my fingers and hands are cramped — even though it’s a full-sized keyboard. Also on the negative side, you can’t get to the front of the laptop. I have my microphone and sound card on the front and would like to use it. But, I can’t using this unit. Also, the instructions are not well-written. Not that you need many instructions but there is a right way to install things.
On the positive side, it pretty much works right out of the box. Be sure to turn the laptop off first. Install the USB cable into your laptop and then insert anything else you need after that. My unit started right off. Has a nice feature. Hit a certain key and up pops a neat, handy calculator. It has a nice keyboard except I’d prefer an ergonomic one. Has the calculator keys, Internet keys, etc.
The unit is built solidly. You can feel the quality. The stand is heavy for a reason — it is designed to protect your laptop. So that’s a plus. The keyboard is light and easily managed. When not in use, just set it aside.
At least in my opinion, the unit makes the laptop sit far too high to be comfortable or easy-on-the-eyes or in any way ergonomic. I just lay my laptop on top of the unit, flat. It’s too short in that case so I have to reinforce the back end of the laptop. I can see no way to make this unit useful in any other way.
So now I have a keyboard that I can depend on. By the way, the stand has several handy USB ports, which adds lots of function. I rate it close to five stars except, that at least to me, the keyboard is a bit cramped. Also, you have to adjust the height and distance of the laptop so it suits your field of vision and comfort. Not as easy as it sounds.
I probably would have purchased a different type of unit had I actually seen this and perhaps used it first.

I bought this before I went to on a 3 week vacation. I had to work so I took this along, not much of a vacation. I took my netbook and was hoping that I this would help in elevating my the netbook monitor and I thought having a full keyboard would make it more comfortable. It worked great, plug and play. I was able to work comfortably. My only negative was that it is a little heavy so it is not what you want if you are constantly on the move. This would be a good choice for a home pseudo docking station or if you go on extended trips and you can put this in luggage.
